Setting an Environment Variable

These instructions are for Windows

  1. Open System Properties (right click My Computer icon and choose Properties) and click the Advanced system settings link in the left column.
  2. Click on the Advanced tab and then click on the Environment Variables button.
  3. Under the System Variables section click New.
  4. Now enter the Variable name and Variable value (Port@Server Name) that is associated with the software you are working with from the table above (under the Environment Variable column. The name is in all CAPS.) Click OK three times, close system properties and you are done.

Troubleshooting with the License Log

  1. Using remote desktop connect to the license server at <hostname>.byu.edu and log in with your CAEDM credentials.
  2. Once logged in launch “LM Tools” from the Desktop. Choose the “Config Services” tab and choose the service name (these are named after the name of the software).
  3. Click on the View Log button. Depending on the size of the log file this will take awhile to open. If it does you can browse to the log file by using the “Path to the debug log file” path and open the file with windows explorer.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the log file and you should find more details as to why the license server is not working correctly.

When you are done be sure to close everything you opened and LOG OFF as opposed to shutting down the server. If you accidentally shut it down that would be very bad.
