Department Printers

Policies and Procedures

The following procedures are to be observed by all students of the ECEn Department who will use the provided printers. Policies for printing are straightforward and require both integrity and common sense, which are expected to be maintained in regards to the department's printers and policies. Items in this list are not limited:

- Do NOT attempt to fix printers through the printer's interface. Doing so may remove others' abilities to print. Most errors are due to user error on sending a print job.
- Do NOT remove paper or ink trays from the printer trays. It is provided for printing only.
- Do NOT attempt to repair jammed printers. Doing so may result in you being liable for any damages to the printers.
- Use common courtesy with queuing print jobs. Printers are shared with fellow students and should not be used for large print jobs. Discretion is advised with quantifying a large print job. If you quantify as such, please use the HBLL or BYU Printing Services.

By printing through ECEn Department printers, you agree to abide by these terms and conditions. If you have any concerns, first read through the CAEDM Printing page. For other issues including empty printing trays, please submit a ticket to the CSRs. Thank you.

Using Department Printers

Printers can be found in most undergraduate labs and in varying locations across the Clyde and Engineering Buildings. If a printer is currently unavailable or out-of-order, do not reach out the CSRs or CAEDM (they are already aware). Instead, walk to another undergraduate lab or location and print to that one instead. CAEDM stocks standard 92 Bright, 20lbs office paper. Other paper types must be approved by a CAEDM employee. Do NOT print transparencies, as they may destroy the fusers.

Locations

Any damages caused by using unapproved paper will be liable to the responsible party.

Costs

CAEDM print jobs are charged per sheet of paper, not per page. In other words, double-sided prints will cost the same as single-sided prints. Print job costs may vary, but for most undergraduate printers it will be 3 cents per sheet. Thus, the CAEDM Printer Driver will estimate the cost of a print job prior to committing to payment.

For individual users, print jobs are charged to their BYU Cougar Cash Card. However, on rare occasions, Cougar Cash servers may not be addressed when a print job is submitted. Thus, CAEDM accounts each have "CAEDM Money" balances, which will recorded the charge to the individuals CAEDM print balance. Thus, a temporary negative print balance may be observed. Once the Cougar Cash servers are available again, CAEDM will charge the outstanding balance to the student's Cougar Cash account.

To check account balances, click Check Print Balance under the "Printing" tab. Cougar Cash balance, CAEDM Money balance, and Group Print Account balances will be shown.

Note: Errors in print charging caused by a paper jam or other error cannot be amended by CAEDM employees nor the CSRs. In these cases, a credited refund will be sent to the student's CAEDM Money account for future print jobs.

Printing

Undergraduate Lab Computers
Printing from a lab computer is simple. Use the CAEDM Printing Web Service and queue a printing job using your CAEDM credentials, selecting a printer, and submitting a PDF to be printed.
Personal Computers
Install and run the CAEDM Print Driver. Similar to the web service, the CAEDM Print Drivers requires CAEDM credentials, selecting a printer, and submitting a PDF to be printed. You may also use the Webprint service as described above.
