What is Falcon?

Faculty/Professors/Students:

Falcon is a security software from Crowdstrike that is on all BYU computers, including CAEDM undergraduate and research lab computers. It is used to monitor and protect against malware and other forms of suspicious activity both from internal and external of BYU campus. Thus, do NOT download or install content from insecure and/or non-trusted sites. This includes but is not limited to addresses beginning with http, illegal streaming and downloading sites, and email phishing links.

What do I if I am unsure if I caused a security breach?

Mistakes do happen and if you believe you made a mistake or unsure if a breach has occurred, please report this to the CSRs in EB440 or by submitting a ticket immediately. The CSRs will work with you to clear this issue. It is best practice to try to remove or fix a breach as soon as possible. Similar to patching a wound, if not treated as soon as possible, further damage can be caused for yourself and/or others.

In no circumstance should you remove or attempt to remove Falcon from the computer. Doing so will result in disciplinary action from the department and university, and logs will be checked for the responsible party.
